His primary schooling took him from Pout to Saint-Louis, where he was admitted to the Prytanée militaire. There he obtained his baccalauréat together with the elementary and advanced military preparation certificates, to which he added the parachutist's certificate.
At Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar he earned a maîtrise in legal sciences, specialising in business law. A DEA in political science, a master's degree in public finance and management and a doctorate in law and political science completed his studies, while the École nationale d'administration awarded him the Customs inspector's certificate.
